article marketing strategy Article Marketing Strategy Traffic and Back Links for FreeThe article marketing strategy (also recently become known as the “Bum Marketing Method”) is a powerful one, as it provides a “dual benefit”.

What do I mean by a “dual-benefit ?

There are 2 primary outcomes of any marketing effort that you make – traffic and back links. For example, using Google Adwords will get you traffic, but no backlinks … whereas, submitting your site to directories and portals will get you back links, but almost no traffic.

Article marketing however can get you both, because the search engines love some of the top article directories at the moment, and it is not too tough to rank an article high up in the SERP’s for a given keyword combo.

The result is often a nice, high value, back link from your article on the article directory, and also the traffic that results from your article being well ranked in the search engines.

The Disadavantages

The one big drawback with the article marketing strategy is that it requires WORK.

Somebody has to write the articles, and somebody has to submit them to the article directories. Both of these tasks are time and labor intensive. And, if you are just starting out, with a very small budget, then that person is going to be YOU.

The second problem is that, for a lot of us (me included) writing often does not come very naturally, and every time you sit down to write some articles you are more easily distracted by something else that you would rather be doing. It definitely is a skill that you can teach yourself with practice though, and the more you do it the better you will get at it.

What Can You Do if You Hate Writing ?

If you do have a little bit of a marketing budget for your site, and you hate writing articles, then spend a little of that money on getting someone else to do the writing. As I have previously mentioned, you will be killing 2 birds with one stone, and getting both back links and traffic, so it is money well spent.

There are plenty of great sites around where you can outsource this task … like eLance, textbroker, and FreeLancer to mention but a few.

Another popular option, if you have a budget, is to purchase PLR (Private Label Rights) articles. PLR articles usually come in “bundles”, and basically they are a collection of articles that have been written by somebody who then sells them to persons such as us. The PLR licensing means that after purchasing the articles you then have full right to edit them in any way you wish, including representing yourself as the author.

In Summary

In my following posts I will cover some methods that have worked for me personally in ranking my articles on the search engines, which article directories seem to work better, a little more on outsourcing if you are planning on following that option, and also some tools and services that you can use to automate some of the process.

My advice … as an Internet marketer the article marketing strategy is one of the skills that you really need. So bite the bullet, stop procrastinating, and JUST DO IT.
